Asian stocks fell, driving the region’s benchmark index to its biggest loss in a month, on rising geopolitical risk after President Donald Trump warned the US will retaliate against North Korea, raising tension between the two countries.

US stocks fell on Tuesday afternoon after Donald Trump said North Korea "will be met with fire and fury" if it threatens the US.

UK stocks narrowly failed to hit a record closing high on Tuesday after a late rally stalled just short of the record. Paddy Power Betfair was the biggest mover, down 4.1%, after the bookmaker said it had suffered from "adverse sports results" in recent months.

  • Older people's income has received a massive boost from private and workplace pensions in the last 40 years, official statistics show. In 1977, only 45% of retired households received income from a private pension, compared with 80% last year, the Office for National Statistics said. As a result, the income gap between those only getting the state pension and other pensioners had grown.
  • Media giant Walt Disney plans to start its own online streaming services for movies, shows and sports in a shift aimed at bringing productions directly to consumers. The plans come as the firm grapples with falling television subscriptions and challenges from online video. It will launch an ESPN-branded sports service early next year and a Disney streaming service in 2019. The firm also said it would end a distribution deal with Netflix.
